Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the nutritional status, knowledge on multivitamin/mineral supplements and their use among individuals who applied to an outpatient clinic and to evaluate the factors related to multivitamin/mineral preparations (MVM) use. Subjects and Method: This descriptive study was conducted at outpatient clinics (serving for hospital staff and health sciences faculty students) between May-June 2019 with 1650 (≥18 years of age) applicants and one out of four individuals (n=415) were asked to participate in the study. A total of 289 people accepted to participate. The data were collected via face-to-face questionnaire. Results: Of the participants, 66.8% were women; 58.9% were between the ages of 20-34 years; and MVM use was 36.3%. Participants stated their economic status as “good” (p<0.001); physically inactive subjects (p<0.001); and current smokers (p=0.008) were using MVMs more than the others. Almost half of them (46.0%) thought that they had adequate and balanced diet and were using MVMs less (p<0.001). While purchasing MVMs, 61.9% of the users pay attention to price, 47.6% to the brand, 39.0% to the naturality and 32.4% to content. Conclusion: In line with these results, in order to increase the level of awareness of people education should be provided to raise awareness on healthy nutrition and use of food supplements, at an early age, and public awareness should be ensured through mass media and social media projects.

Cardiovascular disease prevention strategies include aspirin use as a preventive measure. The internet can be used to raise public awareness, promote healthy lifestyles, and improve disease management. This pilot study describes the feasibility of an educational website to recruit and follow adult internet users to examine whether they talked to their physician about aspirin and initiated aspirin use. As part of a statewide intervention promoting an aspirin regimen to prevent heart attacks and strokes in Minnesota, visitors to the website were encouraged to complete an aspirin candidacy tool. Between October, 2015 and February, 2016, men 45–79 and women 55–79 who identified as aspirin candidates were invited to participate in a 6-month study involving four, 5 min online surveys to examine physician discussions about aspirin, aspirin use, and mobile technology use. During the 5-month recruitment period, 234 adults enrolled in the study. Of the 174 who completed the baseline survey and at least one follow-up survey, 74 (43.5%) did not use aspirin at baseline. During follow-up, 12 (16.2%) talked to their doctor about aspirin and 31 (41.8%) initiated aspirin use. Internet, social media, and mobile technology use were high among this population. An educational website may have provided a cue to action for aspirin discussions with physicians and aspirin initiation. More research is needed to evaluate the utility of on-line tools to increase appropriate aspirin use among internet-using populations.

Background: Vaccination is the administration of a vaccine to help the immune system develop protection from a disease. It is the most cost-effective mechanism for disease prevention that allows people to have better protection from specific bacteria and viruses. Objective: The goal of the research is to determine mothers’ knowledge, attitudes and practices towards child immunization. Methods: In the framework of a cross-sectional study, 188 mothers with children from three to five years of age, were surveyed in 7 kindergartens of Tbilisi (capital city of Georgia). The semi-structured questionnaire was administered in a face-to-face manner. Results: The majority of interviewed mothers (97%) showed a positive attitude towards immunization and believe that vaccination plays an important role in disease prevention. 32% do not have sufficient information about the routine vaccination schedule and subsequently, 36% of children have incomplete vaccination. The reasons for incomplete vaccination are: a lack of knowledge about a routine vaccination schedule (25.5%), limited information about the necessity of the second or the third dose of vaccination (18.6%), fear of post-vaccination side effects (16%) and fear of a child illness (9.6%). A significant association was found between mothers’ education, practice and attitude regarding immunization. Health institutions (49.5%) and internet sources (21.3%) were the most popular sources of information about immunization. Conclusion: Incomplete immunization is related to mother’s lack of information about the immunization schedules, limited awareness about the second and the third dose of vaccination, and it is also related to fear of child getting sick after the vaccination. Some respondents believe that vaccination is not safe and can cause serious side effects. But the majority of mothers have a positive attitude towards child immunization, but their levels of awareness are very low and they do not have comprehensive information about a routine vaccination schedule. It is necessary to raise public awareness of the importance of immunization by implementing educational programs and by traditional and social media.

In recent years, seed and grain proteins with nutritional bioactivity have been studied for disease prevention and treatments. Seed and grains are key components of a healthy and balanced diet which support the protective role of bioactive proteins with nutraceutical activities. Proteins obtained from seeds can be a good source of amino acids and nutraceutical peptides that can be used for biotic functions to improve health and disease prevention. Hence, the increased consumption of seeds and grains promotes a healthy generation in future and a significant reduction in diseases. To increase the human health awareness, we must have to enlighten the importance of easily available seeds and grains in our food.

Public awareness campaigns have played a crucial role in improving the health of communities, as they directly affect people's perception and behavior towards a specific topic, especially on disease prevention and health promotion. This can be seen in campaigns focused on, for example, infectious disease prevention such as HIV, tuberculosis, dengue, and more recently, COVID-19. Formerly, awareness campaigns took a very traditional approach using printed promotional materials, in-person conferences, and television and radio commercials as their primary way of reaching their target audience. This chapter describes an alternative method for reaching new audiences, in a society where social media has taken over as the public's main source of information and entertainment. These platforms can be used to extend important public health information to connect with and educate the public. The authors believe that this approach may increase the public's response towards emerging public health concerns as well as aid the digitalization of medicine through the evolution of telemedicine.
