Antioxidants are able to suppress free radicals, reducing the occurrence of oxidation reactions, and are also effective in preventing skin damage due to the aging process. The use of tampoi fruit extract as a gel mask preparation could have a purpose as an antioxidant to treat skin problems. The method is an experimental laboratory by making a gel mask preparation from tampoi fruit. The making of a gel mask begins with mixing the base mask consisting of PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol), Propylene Glycol, Carbomer 940 then added with tampoi fruit extract. The tampoi fruit gel mask formulation in this study was made based on variations in PVA of FI (3%), FII (6%), FIII (12%), and FIV (18%) which aims to determine its effect and the most optimal formula. The steps taken include the extraction of tampoi fruit, making gel masks with 4 formulas F1 (3%), F2 (6%), F3 (12%), and F4 (18%) followed by evaluation of formulas which include organoleptic tests, pH test, viscosity test, spreadability test, and adhesion test. Physical stability testing was carried out for 4 weeks. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by using the ANOVA statistical test. The results showed that there was a significant effect on the evaluation of the viscosity test and the adhesion test for each formula. Meanwhile, the pH test and spreadability test did not have a significant effect on each formula. The optimal formula is in F1 with a PVA concentration of 3%.

Environmental contextIncreasing global plastic production adds plastic debris to the environment. We show that potentially harmful additives present in plastic particles are released to water at an increased rate when material properties change by aging due to exposure to high temperature and especially to UV radiation. For risk assessment of such plastic additives, more information on their degradation products and their toxicity is needed. AbstractRecycled plastic granules of high-density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene the size of microplastics were exposed to artificial aging conditions (2000h; photooxidative and thermo-oxidative) to simulate their fate outdoors. Their potential to leach into water during the aging process was investigated using column percolation tests. Aging-related changes on the surface of the material were characterised by IR measurements indicating oxidation reactions with the formation of new adsorption bands (C=O, C–O and OH), especially in the case of photooxidative aging. These findings were confirmed by the identification of leachable organic compounds. Leaching of total organic carbon, Cl, Ca, Cu and Zn is clearly affected by changes due to aging, and their release is increased after photooxidative aging. In general, exposure to photooxidative conditions shows a greater influence on aging and thus on leaching and seems to be the more important mechanism for the aging of microplastic in the environment. Comparison with the total content of inorganic species revealed that, for most elements, less than 3% of the total content is released after 2000h of photooxidative aging.

Senggani fruit (Melastoma Malabathricum L.) contains anthocyanin that functioning as an antioxidant. Anthocyanin are tremendously sensitive to thermal processes which trigger phytochemical or photo-oxidation reactions that can open anthocyanin rings. The objective of this study is to identify the effect of the simplicia drying method on the antioxidant activity of Senggani fruit extract. Senggani fruit extract was prepared by obtaining samples of ripe fruit, dry sorting, washing, wet sorting, and drying using two methods; sunlight and oven at 70oC. After the simplicia was dry, it was blended and sifted until smooth. The fine simplicia was macerated with 96% ethanol and evaporated to gain a crude extract. The crude extract was assessed with reagents for phytochemical screening. Furthermore, the crude extract was examined for antioxidant activity by the DPPH method. This study implies that the simplicia and crude extract of Senggani fruit from drying in sunlight and oven possess different organoleptic properties such as color, smell, and taste. In phytochemical testing with reagents, it was discovered that anthocyanin compounds were unveiled in drying utilizing sunlight while employing an oven at 70oC; no anthocyanins were found. The antioxidant testing of Senggani fruit extract revealed that the drying method employing sunlight had an IC50 value of 18.8 g/mL while the oven temperature of 70oC owned an IC50 value of 28.3 g/mL. Based on the study results, it can be identified that the simplicia drying method affects the antioxidant activity of the Senggani fruit extract. The drying method in the sun produces extracts with greater antioxidant activity while drying in an oven at 70oC results in a degradation process of anthocyanin compounds, thereby decreasing the antioxidant activity of the Senggani fruit extract.
