The Toba Batak people are accustomed to using Indonesian, especially those living in urban areas. In general, they are able to speak Indonesian because they are bilingual, which is able to use two languages. Even the intensity of the use of Indonesian is higher than the Batak language. This will cause problems in language maintenance. The attitude of the young generation is crucial for the sustainability of this regional language. Regional languages will become extinct if the speakers of the regional languages are exhausted. In order to avoid the extinction of regional languages, it is expected that the language will always be used starting from the family environment, residence, and work environment. The theory used to describe this problem is the sociolinguistic theory, using quantitative descriptive analysis methods. Based on the discussion it is known that the younger generation of Bataks feel proud to be able to use Batak language (97.5%). The younger generation of Bataks also realize that mastery of the Batak language is very important (95%). The lack of ability of the younger generation in the Batak language is due to their parents teaching them at home and tends to use Indonesian (50%).

Regional languages are the languages used to communicate with each other in certain areas. Many factors have weakened the current generation's awareness of preserving the local language. One of them is the lack of means that can be used to access information from the regional language itself, so this is one of the obstacles that occur. This study will design a system for translating an image/image containing Indonesian text into a text in regional languages. This research starts from the pre-processing stage, the character segmentation technique in the image uses the Connected Component Analysis labeling, then the image is extracted then the character image is classified using the Artificial Neural Network method. The next step is combining characters into the text. After that, the translation process uses the Levenshtein algorithm to match the text classification results with regional languages. This research is expected to be able to translate Indonesian text images into regional language texts, to help preserve regional languages in Indonesia.

Kata kunci: pengayaan, kosakata, bahasa daerah, strategi, keluarga   Abstract   Massive language developments and changes have touched traditional territories, including in the Waraka State located on the coast of Elpaputih Bay, Central Maluku, where the people speak the Wemale language or the Waraka language. Only the older generation communicates in this language. For this reason, counseling was initiated to the younger generation about the importance of regional languages through community service activities (PkM) to students at SMA Negeri 55 Teluk Elpaputih. The method used is a short lecture method with questions and answers, discussion and vocabulary collection, as well as a random game of card pairs. The results show that the local language vocabulary owned by the students is indeed very minimal because the transmission between parents to children is hampered. However, the potential of the students is big enough to start inputting everyday vocabulary, and get used to it through simple sentences from within the family. Thus, regional languages should be prioritized at home.   Keywords: enrichment, vocabulary, regional language, strategy, family
