Abstract The nature of experience during the medical study at university may play an essential role in choosing the specialty. Objectives: to determine the effect of goveremtnal universities in general and on medical interns' career choice , taking into consideration the gender difference. Furthermore, to find out when governmental universities educate their students about the different specialties. Method: It was a cross-sectional study approved in July in 2018 that included 234 Saudi medical intern students from four different medical collages in governmental universities in Riyadh. These were King Saud University (KSU), Princess Norah University (PNU), Imam University (IU), and King Saud bin Abdulaziz for Health and Science (KSAU-HS) with consideration of gender differences and availability. All participants who are selected randomly completed an online-questioner. Result: Around two thirds (66%) of the participants ensure that their governmental universities had a positive influence in choosing the specialties dividing equally between both genders. According to the participants’ perceptions, all the items of the medical education system did not affect in choosing the specialty except three of them that have a positive effect which are elective experience (43.59%), clinical year (40.6%) and the personality of instructor (38.46%). Furthermore, one-third (33%) of the participants ensure that they are educated about the specialties in the third year. The most common positive factor is elective experience by 19.36%, while the most common negative factors are improper block duration and the personality of the instructor by 14.52%. Conclusion : Most governmental universities have a positive effect on their students' career choice, and they educate pre-graduate students about specialties.

This study aimed at examining social appearance anxiety levels of male nursing students and their coping attitudes and identifying the relationship between them. A cross-sectional research approach was adopted in a study population of 180; the sample comprised 129 students. Data were collected using a socio-demographic information form, the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS), and the Assessment of Coping Attitudes Inventory (COPE). The average age of students was 20.54 ± 1.49 years. The male students’ average score obtained from the SAAS measure was 32.64 ± 13.07, while that of the COPE Inventory was 138.11 ± 14.47. Significant correlations were detected between students’ SAAS scores and COPE scale scores. There were negative relationships between social anxiety scores and COPE subscales of positive reinterpretation and growth ( p < .05), use of instrumental social support ( p < .05), active coping ( p ≤ .01), and planning ( p ≤ .01). In contrast, there were positive relationships between social anxiety scores and COPE subscales of mental disengagement ( p ≤ .01), denial ( p ≤ .01), behavioral disengagement ( p ≤ .01), restraint ( p ≤ .01), use of emotional social support ( p < .05), substance use ( p ≤ .01), and acceptance ( p < .05). The conclusion was that male students who do not perceive themselves as having an ideal body image face high social appearance anxiety. There is a prejudice that social appearance anxiety has negative effects on these students’ self-confidence. In this context, this research revealed concrete results about how male nursing students have battled the prejudices that they have faced throughout their student life.

The present research addresses the interplay between agency motives and objective dyadic closeness with regard to the functioning of intimate couple relationships. Applying a Person Situation approach, we hypothesized (a) that partners’ implicit and explicit agency motives predict their selection of dyadic living arrangements characterized by high or low objective closeness (coresidence or living-aparttogether), (b) that agency motives have more negative effects on relationship functioning in coresident couples, (c) that agency motives predict agentic motivational states in coresident couples, and (d) that agentic states predict day-to-day changes in relationship satisfaction under conditions of high objective closeness. We found support for these between- and within-couple hypotheses in cross-sectional and prospective analyses of an age-heterogeneous sample of 548 heterosexual couples, and in a 2-week diary study with a subsample of 106 couples. Most notably, agentic motive dispositions and motivational states related to relationship functioning more negatively under conditions of high objective closeness. The overall positive effect of objective closeness on relationship functioning was diminished by strong agentic motivation. Perspectives for future research on agency motives in couple relationships are discussed.
