Activity of Ethanol Extract of Tinospora crispa (L.) Hook in Increasing Swimming Endurance on Male Mice Using Natatory Exhaustion Method

The use of stamina-enhancing drugs is now increasingly widespread. Continuous use of stamina medication can cause side effects such as insomnia, feeling nervous and emotional. Therefore, it is necessary to look for effective drugs, relatively low side effects, and relatively cheap prices. One of them is to use natural materials such as Tinospora crispa (L.) Hook stems. This study is to find out the tonic effect extract ethanol of Tinospora crispa stem against male mice with the Natatory Exhaustion Method. This research is an experimental study with a posttest matched control group design. Tonic effect test experiments were conducted using the Natatory Exhaustion Method. Test animals as many as 25 mice were divided into 5 groups, group I, II, III has given Tinospora crispa stem ethanol extract (100,200 and 400 mg/kg body weight). Group IV was given 100 mg/kg body weight of caffeine (positive control) and group V given 25 mL/kg body weight of Carboxymethylcellulose sodium 0.5 % (negative control). Test reserved per oral for 14 days. Test showing that administration 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg body weight of Tinospora crispa stem ethanol extract gave tonic effect on male mice. Mann-Whitney tests showed that the administration of Tinospora crispa stem ethanol extract doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg body weight gave a tonic effect on male mice with significant value (p<0.05) compared to the administration of Carboxymethylcellulose sodium 0.5%, administration of 400 mg/kg body weight extract ethanol of Tinospora crispa stem has a tonic effect on mice which differs noticeably with the administration of caffeine 100 mg/kg body weight with significant value (p<0.05). The present investigation revealed that Tinospora crispa stem ethanol extract shows tonic effect by increasing swimming endurance on male mice.

Sidaguri leaves (Sida rhombifolia L.) Have been shown to contain flavonoid compounds, where they are efficacious as hyperuricemia. This study aims to determine effectiveness ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves as antihyperuricemia in white rats. The study was conducted using the method of potassium oxanate induction and measured using glucometers. 15 animals were divided into 5 groups, namely negative control, positive control, group I combination of ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves 50 mg / kg body weight, group II ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves 100 mg / kg body weight, group III ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves 200 mg / kg body weight for 5 hours. Examination of antihyperuricemia effects is done by comparing the uric acid levels value of the rats before and after treatment. The results of this study indicate that the three dose ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves provide an antihyperuricemia effect and based on one-way Anova, Tuckey and LSD data analysis, shows that the dose of 50 mg / kg body weight is effective as antihyperuricemia and does not have a significant difference (p> 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the dose is the most effective in decreases uric acid levels in white rats, which is a dose of 200 mg / kg body weight because it mostly decreased uric acid levels.

The aim of this experiment was to determine the effect of meniran herbs (Phyllantus niruri L.) extract to blood triglycerides level in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This experiment was a laboratory experiment with pre and post-test with a control group design. The samples were 30 male Wistar rats with ±200 gram of body weight and ±2 months old. The samples were divided into five groups by using a purposive random sampling technique and each group consisted of six rats. Group I as a negative control, group II as a positive control, and groups III, IV and V as meniran herbs extract groups with first dose, second dose, and third dose. All rats were simultaneously given with hyperlipemic feed. Group II was simultaneously administered with Cholvastin 0.5 mg/200 grams body weight/day. Groups III, IV and V were simultaneously treated with meniran herbs extract at dose of 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg/200 grams body weight/day. The total period of this experiment was 21 days. At the day 1st and 21st, blood was collected from rat orbital venous plexus. Serum was analyzed for their pre and post-test blood triglycerides. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a post-hoc test. The value of p=0.002 (p<0.05) showed there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test in delta means of blood triglycerides level among groups. Meniran herbs extract had a significant triglycerides lowering effect against blood triglycerides level of Wistar rats. The most potential of meniran herbs extract dose was 100 mg/200 gram body weight/day.

The tonic is a substance that can improve our body strength. It can recover the staff our body shortly. It can also make our body stronger and can stimulates our appetite. Knowing the most effective tonic effect dose variation among ethanol extract of bitter leaf on male mice (Mus musculus L.) Swiss Strain. This study is an experimental research design with True experimental design approach Posttest Pretest with control group. The ethanol extract of bitter leaf is made with bitter leaf quote using ethanol 96% with maceration method. The provision of treatment in test animals distinguished on several variations of dosage. In preparation extracts there are 5 groups, namely: group I, II, III, IV, V treated positive control caffeine 13 mg / kg, cooking oil as a negative control, the ethanol extract at a dose of 50 mg / kg, 100 mg / kg, 200 mg / kg. Data obtained tonic effect of added time the mice's ability to defend itself when direnangkan. Data were analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS 18.0 for windows followed by a test post hoc test and ED50 probit analysis to determine the most effective dose as a tonic. Ethanol extract of bitter leaf at a dose of 50 mg / kg have a tonic effect of 9.2 minutes, a dose of 100 mg / kg have a tonic effect of 13.4 minutes, and a dose of 200 mg / kg have a tonic effect 23 minutes. Results yield of ethanol extract of bitter leaf maceration 7.8% b/b. The ethanol extract of bitter leaf tested in test animals male mice (Mus muculus L.) at all doses provide a tonic effect, and the effect will increase along with increasing doses of test substance preparation.

<p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh pemberian ekstrak etanol kulit petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk) terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan yang diinduksi aloksan. Hewan percobaan dibagi atas 5 kelompok diantaranya kelompok kontrol negatif, kelompok kontrol positif,dosis I (280 mg/kgBB mencit), dosis II (560 mg/kg BB mencit), dosis III (840 mg/kg BB mencit). Penelitian dilakukan selama 21 hari. Persentase penurunan kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan setelah diberikan ekstrak etanol kulit petai pada hari ke-21 adalah dosis I (77,52 %) lebih besar dibandingkan dengan dosis II (69,5 %) dan dosis III (73,37 %). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan uji Two Way Anova dengan program SPSS 17. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak etanol kulit petai untuk tiga variasi dosis menyatakan perbedaan yang bermakna secara statistik terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan.</p><p><em>Petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk) has a compound β-sitosterol and stigmasterol that have efficacy to decreased blood glucose levels. This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of petai peel for decrease blood glucose levels of male mice induced by alloxan. Experimental animals were divided into 5 groups including negative control group, positive control group, the first dose (280 mg/kg in mice), the second dose (560 mg/kg in mice), the third dose (840 mg/kg in mice). The study was conducted for 21 days. After 21 days, the result found that the percentage of blood glucose levels after the male mice given the ethanol extract of petai peel was, the first dose (77.52%) biger than the second dose (69.5%) and the third dose (73.37%). The data obtained were analyzed by Two Way ANOVA using SPSS 17. The results showed that have signicantly difference between three dose variation of ethanol extract of petai peel in blood glucose levels.</em></p>

Background: Terminalia macroptera Guill. &Perr. (Combretaceae) is a flowering plant with several ethno-medicinal claims. However, the dearth of information on its analgesic property has necessitated this study.Objectives: to evaluate the anti-nociceptive potential of ethanol extract of Terminalia macroptera stem bark (TMSB) in mice.Materials and Methods: Male and female mice of weight range 22 – 25g were randomly allotted into seven groups (n= 5) and treated as follows: Group I received 0.5 mL distilled water orally (negative control), Groups II-V were orally administered ethanol extract of T. macroptera stem bark (TMSB) at 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg respectively while groups VI-VII received piroxicam 10 mg/kg and pentazocine 2 mg/kg intraperitoneally respectively as standards. The same treatment pattern was adopted for both pain models: tail immersion and acetic acid-induced writhing assays. Data were expressed as mean ± standard error of mean (SEM) using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey’s and Bonferroni's multiple comparisons tests with p < 0.05 taken as significance.Results: The ethanolic extract of Terminalia macroptera stem bark showed significant dose-dependent anti-nociceptive activity at 100 and 400 mg/kg (2.95±0.41 and 2.9±0.31 respectively) 60 min post-treatment compared to the negative control group in the tail immersion test. Significant inhibition of nociception (0.20±0.20) was obtained at 400 mg/kg compared to the negative control group in the acetic acid-induced writhing test.Conclusions: The ethanol extract of Terminalia macroptera stem bark exhibited dose-dependent anti-nociceptive potential in both tail immersion and acetic acid-induced writhing assays in mice.

<p>Oxidative stress is related to pregnancy complications that could increase maternal and infant mortality. This study aimed to determine the effect of propolis extract supplementation during pregnancy on oxidative stress level and pregnancy outcomes utilizing Malonedealdehyde (MDA) and 8-Oxo-2′-Deoxogunosine (8-OHdG) levels, maternal body weight, and the average number of fetuses as the parameters. The study was conducted by using a posttest only control group design on 24 pregnant Wistar rats, which were divided into four groups. Group I was control, Group II-IV were the treatment groups given propolis extract of 1.8mg, 3.6mg, and 7.2mg/200gBW/day, respectively. The standard feed given was AIN93G dose of 20g/day and distilled water ad libitum. Propolis extract was given using a gastric feeding tube every morning for 20 days. At the end of the treatment, body weight was meisured and blood collected for assessed MDA and 8-OHdG levels  by ELISA method  and then we performed abdominal surgery to count number of fetuses. The result are there were decreasing level of MDA and 8-OHDG by administration of propolis significantly (p&lt;0.05) group: I: 2,04±0,091, II: 1,55±0,067, III: 1,05±0,176, IV: 0,73±0,075 (mmol/mL) (p=0.001); 8 OHdG level (ng/mL) group I: 10,02±0,403, II: 8,60±0,078, III: 7,89±0,051, IV: 7,53±0,063 (p=0,001). Average of maternal body weight (g) were increased: group I: 228,33±3,93, II: 237,17±4,36, III: 244,83±4,02, IV: 248,00±5,76 (p=0,001) and Average number of fetuses tend to increased as well, group I : 8,5±0,05, II: 7,8±0,41, III: 9,5±1,05, IV: 9,6±0,52 (p=0,02). The conclusion of this research are supplementation of propolis extract in pregnant rats can reduce oxidative stress and improve pregnancy outcomes.</p>

Abstract: One of the treatment options of periodontal abscess caused by Fusobacterium nucleatum is administration of antibiotics. However, long-term antibiotics consumption can cause negative side effects. Therefore, alternative treatments that have low side effects and easy to be obtained are needed. Nike fish (Awaous melanocephalus) is one of the endemic fish of North Sulawesi province which has antibacterial properties. This study was aimed to evaluate the inhibition effect of nike fish extract on the growth of Fusobacterium nucleatum. This was a true experimental study with a posttest only control group design. We used modified Kirby-Bauer method with filter papers. Ciprofloxacin was used as the positive control and aquadest as the negative control. Extract of nike fish and stock of pure bacteria Fusobacterium nucleatum were prepared. The results showed that the average diameters of the inhibition zones formed in the nike fish extract after three repetitions, were as follows: for extract concentration of 12.5% was 2.91 mm; 25% was 4.16 mm; 50% was 8.41 mm; and 100% was 9.58 mm. In conclusion, nike fish extract (Awaous melanocephalus) at concentrations of 50% and 100% had a weak inhibitory effect (Himedia category) on the growth of Fusobacterium nucleatum meanwhile at concentrations of 12.5% and 25% there was no activity of zone of inhibition.Keywords: extract of nike fish (Awaous melanocephalus); Fusobacterium nucleatum; inhibitory effect Abstrak: Salah satu opsi pengobatan abses periodontal yang disebabkan oleh bakteri Fusobacterium nucleatum yaitu dengan penggunaan antibiotik namun mengonsumsi antibiotik jangka panjang dapat menimbulkan efek samping negatif. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengobatan alternatif yang memiliki efek samping rendah serta mudah didapat. Ikan nike merupakan salah satu ikan endemik Provinsi Sulawesi Utara yang berkhasiat sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak ikan nike (Awaous melanocephalus) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Fusobacterium nucleatum. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental murni dengan post test only control group design. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode modifikasi Kirby-Bauer dengan menggunakan paper disk. Kontrol positif menggunakan antibakteri ciprofloxacin dan kontrol negatif menggunakan akuades. Pada penelitian ini digunakan ekstrak ikan nike dan stok bakteri murni Fusobacterium nucleatum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk pada ekstrak ikan nike setelah tiga kali pengulangan yaitu untuk konsentrasi 12,5% sebesar 2,91 mm; 25% sebesar 4,16 mm; 50% sebesar 8,41 mm; dan 100% sebesar 9,58 mm. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah ekstrak ikan nike (Awaous melanocephalus) pada konsentrasi 50% dan 100% memiliki daya hambat kategori lemah (Himedia) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Fusobacterium nucleatum sedangkan pada konsentrasi 12,5% dan 25% dikategorikan tidak terdapat aktivitas zona hambat. Kata kunci: ekstrak ikan nike (Awaous melanocephalus); Fusobacterium nucleatum; daya hambat

The survey results in Indonesia in 2017 showed that the diarrhea morbidity rate for all age groups was 6.897.463. In Indonesia, unripe wooden banana has been used empirically as an antidiarrheal by the people in Senduro village, Lumajang, East Java. The study aimed to prove the antidiarrheal effect of ethanol extract of unripe wooden banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) in male Balb-C/mice induced by Escherichia coli bacteria. This study was a laboratory experimental study with post-test only control group design that used 40 mice divided into 8 groups, namely 1 group without treatment (normal mice) and 7 groups induced by Escherichia coli (1 negative control group given CMC-Na, 3 groups positive controls were given Loperamid HCL 0,5 mg/kgBW, 1 mg/kgBW and 2 mg/kgBW and 3 treatment groups were given extracts 100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW and 400 mg/kgBW). Observation of animals in this study was carried out for 4 hours. Data were analyzed of frequency of diarrhea, fecal weight and fecal consistency used Kruskal Wallis and the results showed significant differences between treatment groups (p <0.05). From the results of the Mann-Whitney test, the ethanol extract of unripe wooden banana with a dose of 100 mg/kgBW was not significantly different (p> 0.05) with the control group of Loperamid HCL dose of 0.5 mg/kgBW. Unripe wooden banana had been shown to have antidiarrheal activity at an extract dose of 100 mg/kg BW in terms of the parameters of fecal consistency, frequency of diarrhea, and fecal weight. The results showed that the higher the dose, the better antidiarrheal activity.

This study aims to determine the content of flavonoid and the effect of ethanol extract of moringa seeds on the regeneration of pancreatic β cells in male white rats streptozotocin induced diabetes. This study method used has total flavonoid equivalent quercetin by spectrophotometry uv-vis and to regeneration of pancreatic β cells in male white rats used 30 test animals,namely male white rats divided into 6 groups, each group consisted of 5 male white rats with details of group I as normal control, Group II as negative control given 0.5% Na-CMC suspension, Group III as positive control given glibenclamide suspension and in Groups IV, V, and VI were given with each dose of 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg/kg BW and 400 mg/kg BB. Histopathological damage picture of the pancreas was observed by staining HE using a 400x magnification olympus Cx21 microscope. The results showed that the ethanol extract of moringa seeds contained secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins. The results showed has total flavonoid equivalent quercetin of moringa seeds is 1,26% and regeneration of pancreatic β cells in male white rats streptozotocin induced diabetes of Moringa seed ethanol extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg BB can have an effect on the regeneration of β cells in the pancreas of white diabetic male rats.

This study aims to determine the effect of guava leaf extract (Psidiium guajava L) on hypercholesterolemia-diabetes and the effective dose for reducing cholesterol and blood glucose levels. This study is a laboratory experimental study using 30 rats divided into 6 test animals. the treatment group, each group consisted of 5 rats. Group I was normal control, group II negative control was given Na-CMC suspension, group III positive control was given simvastatin group IV dose 150 mg / kg BW, group V dose 250 mg / kg BW and group VI dose 350 mg / kg BW. The results showed that the ethanol extract of guava leaves had an effect on reducing blood glucose levels of male white rats with an effective dose of 250mg / kg BW with an average reduction of 119 mg/dL and effectively reduce cholesterol levels at a dose of 150 mg /kg BW with an average reduction of 28,33 mg/dL.
