High doses of paracetamol create necrosis in the liver and produce free radicals. When liver function decreased in a long time, it will lead to severe liver damage and it will be irreversible. Rhizome of Curcuma zedoaria has the potential effect as an antioxidant, it is assumed that  its properties inhibit the formation of free radicals which formed from toxic doses of paracetamol. The aim of this study was to examine the histological structure of the liver and to determine MDA levels in the administration of C. zedoaria toxic dose and paracetamol on the Rattus norvegicus. The study was used twenty-four rats divided into four groups (positive control: CMC 0.5%; negative control: paracetamol 1.35g/kg body weight; treatment group 1 (T1): C. zedoaria 105 mg/200g and paracetamol 1.35g/kg Body weight 2 hours later, and treatment group 2 (T2): paracetamol 1.35g/ kg Body weight and C. zedoaria 105 mg/200g 2 hours later).  The Kruskall-Wallis test results showed MDA level did not significantly different between groups (p = 0.087). Hepatocellular changes were observed descriptively with Hematoxylin-eosin staining. Positive control showed greater hepatocellular changes rather than other groups, hepatocyte cells were enlarged with cytoplasm showing eosinophilic granules infiltrates, enlarged irregular nuclei, nucleolus prominent, there are many necrosis cells.

Introduction: Discoloration can be caused by intrinsic or extrinsic factors. One of the discoloration treatments is teeth whitening. Teeth whitening process usually uses chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide which can cause side effects, namely gingival irritation. Previous research has found that malic acid in strawberries can whiten teeth. Watermelons contain greater malic acid than strawberries. Objective: To analyze the  effectiveness of 100% watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) extract on teeth whitening. Methods: The study was a laboratory experimental study with a total of 15 anterior post-extraction teeth which were discolored using black tea, divided into 3 groups. Group 1 was immersed in 100% watermelon extract, group 2 was immersed in 10% carbamide peroxide as positive control and group 3 was immersed in sterile aquades as negative control, for 56 hours, measured using a shade guide and spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed using one way Anova. Results: The 100% watermelon extract was effective for teeth whitening. There was a significant difference between 100% watermelon extract compared to negative control (p < 0.05). However, there was also a significant difference between 100% watermelon extract, and 10% carbamide peroxide gel (p = 0.003). Conclusion: The watermelon extract has the ability as teeth whitening agent. However, further study is still needed to explore this result and determine the proper concentration for teeth whitening.

Diazinon is an insecticide that has a higher toxicity than other insecticides. Normally, insecticides are detoxified by liver, but this process produced free radicals which causes cell damage. Free radicals also increase lipid peroxidation which directly increase malondialdehyde levels. This research was aimed to determine the influence of diazinon toxicity to the liver histopathology and levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum of rats (Rattus norvegicus). The rats were divided into 4 groups which consist of negative control group and three experimental groups which were given diazinon 20 mg/kgBW (P1), 40 mg/ kgBW (P2), and 60 mg/ kgBW (P3). The rats were given diazinon for 8 weeks orally. The parameters used in this research was liver histopathology with hematoxilin eosin stain and Malondialdehyde levels with Thiobarbituric test. Liver histopathology was analyzed in descriptive qualitative and the level of MDA was analyzed quantitatively using ANOVA and Tukey's exact test with α = 0.05. The result of this research showed the influence of organophosphate (diazinon) on liver histolopathology was shown by inflammatory cells infiltration in hepatic parenchyma, sinusoidal congestion, and cytoplasmic vacuolation of the hepatocytes. Statistical analysis proved that the diazinon was able to increase the level of MDA serum significantly (p<0,05) up to 71% in experimental group P1 (dose 20 mg/kgBW), which the increase level of MDA serum depend on dose of diazinon. This research concluded that diazinon is one of the organophosphate pesticide that toxic based on liver histopathology and MDA serum levels.

Banana peels are the outer envelopes of banana fruits as the by-product of household consumption and banana processing. Kepok banana peel contains bioactive compounds that function as antioxidants which reduce the effects of free radicals. This research was conducted to determine the effect of giving Kepok banana peel extract on the number of basophilic cells in rats with a high-fat diet. The study used 25 male rats aged 2.5-3 months old, which alloted into 5 groups with 5 rats each. The first group was fed on standard feed (K1, positive control), while the second group given high-fat diet (K2, negative control). The rats in group 3, 4, and 5 were given high-fat diet + vitamin C (K3), high-fat diet + 100 mg/kg BW banana peel extract (K4), and high-fat diet + 200 mg/ kg BW banana peel extract (K5), respectively. A sample of the pituitary gland was collected after 60 days of the treatment. The data were analyzed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Duncan test. The results of this study indicated that the administration of Kepok banana peel extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW can maintain the number of basophilic cells, whereas at dose of 200 mg/kg BB has the potential to reduce the number of basophilic cells in rats fed high-fat feed.

There is some anecdotal evidence that oxygen-ozone therapy may be beneficial in some human diseases . However so far only a few biochemical and pharmacodynamic mechanisms have been elucidated. On the basis of preliminary data we postulated that controlled ozone administration would promote an oxidative preconditioning preventing the hepatocellular damage mediated by free radicals. Six groups of rats were classified as follows: (1) negative control, using intraperitoneal sunflower oil; (2) positive control using carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) as an oxidative challenge; (3) oxygen-ozone, pretreatment via rectal insufflation (15 sessions ) and after it, CCl4; (4) oxygen, as group 3 but using oxygen only; (5) control oxygen-ozone, as group 3, but without CCl4; group (6) control oxygen, as group 5, but using oxygen only. We have evaluated critical biochemical parameters such as levels of transaminase , cholinesterase , super - oxide dismutase, catalase , phospholipase A, calcium dependent ATPase, reduced glutathione , glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase and lipid peroxidation. Interestingly, in spite of CCl4adminis tration, group 3 did not differ from group 1, while groups 2 and 4 showed significant differences from groups 1 and 3 and displayed hepatic damage . To our knowledge these are the first experimental results showing that repeated administration of ozone in atoxic doses is able to induce an adaptation to oxidative stress thus enabling the animals to maintain hepatocellular integrity after CCl4poisoning.
