Digestibility is food substances from feed consumption that are not excreted into the feces, and the difference between food substances consumed and those excreted in the feces is the amount of food that can be digested. Information about the digestibility value of food is very important as a basis in assessing the quality of food and designing fish feed rations. This research was conducted to determine the level of the feed digestibility in nirvana tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) feed with a combination of fish meal and maggot flour. This research was conducted at the Hatchery Campus of BAPPL STP Serang, Banten from September-December 2019. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. There were 225 fish used in the testing with an average weight of 0.16 grams. The culture media used was a plastic container with a size of 60 x 41 x 34 cm. Feeding was carried out for 50 days, with a frequency of twice a day, and the dose of feeding was 3% of the biomass. The results showed the total digestibility parameter of feed, protein digestibility of feed and the highest protein retention in the treatment of 50% of the combination feeds , with the highest total digestibility value of 56.97 ± 3.41 and the lowest of 42.08 ± 0.42, the highest protein digestibility with a value of 87.33 ± 0.95and the lowest of 83.11 ± 1.30 and the highest protein retention with a value of 14.83 ± 0.22and the lowest of 11.69 ± 1.05.

A trial involving a total of 56 weanling pigs was conducted to investigate the effects of including dark (Tower) and yellow (R500) rapeseed hulls, soybean hulls and a purified fiber source (Celufil) as 10% of the diets of starter pigs. The animals were offered the experimental diets from 5 to 9 wk of age. The pigs fed on the R500 hull diet had lower (P < 0.05) average weight gain (273 g/day) and feed consumption (481 g/day) values than those fed the other diets, which ranged from 400 to 466 g/day and from 755 to 882 g/day, respectively. The feed efficiency (gain:feed) values were similar for all dietary treatments with values ranging from 0.53 to 0.57. The lower feed consumption observed for the R500 hull diet was suspected to be due to poor palatability of these hulls probably caused by some hydrolytic products of glucosinolates. The dry matter, energy and protein digestibility coefficients for both rapeseed hull diets were similar. The R500 rapeseed hull diet had higher (P < 0.05) digestibility values for dry matter, energy and protein than the soybean hull diet while the Tower rapeseed and soybean hull diets had similar digestibility values for these components. The Celufil diet had similar dry matter and energy digestibility values with the SBH diet but the protein digestibility value for Celufil was higher (P < 0.05) than that of the soybean hull diet and similar to those of the rapeseed hull diets. The crude fiber digestibility values were similar for all diets. Key words: Dark and yellow rapeseed, hulls, fiber, growth performance, digestibility, swine

ABSTRACT

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the use of by product of corn ethanol industry, DDGS (distiller dried grain with soluble) and hominy as feed raw material on digestibility and the growth performance of humpback grouper Cromileptes altivelis juvenile. Three experimental diets containing isoprotein (48%) but different in DDGS contain were used. Diet A containing 0% of DDGS and hominy while diet B and C containing 10.13% (6.13% of DDGS and 4% of hominy) and 19.05% (15.05% of DDGS and 4% of hominy). Reduce of fish meal level in the diet was happen as a consequence of balancing amino acid. For digestibility experiment and Cr2O3 at level of 0.05% was used as a tracer. The feces were daily collected 30‒60 minutes after feeding for 14 days. Dry matter and protein were used as digestibility parameters. Completely randomized design with three treatments and two replicates was used in this experiment. Humpback grouper with an average weight of 11‒14 g were reared at floating net cages (FNG) of 3×2×1.5 m3. The stocking density for each cage was 167 fish/FNG and reared for six months. For digestibility measurement 30 fish were held in cylindrical fiber tank filled with 800 L of sea water. Fish were fed three times daily at satiation level. For maintaining net in a clean condition net was changed in every ten days. Feed consumption, digestibility of protein and total, growth performance indicator i,e specific growth rate, feed efficiency protein and lipid retention were used as evaluating parameters. The results showed that the fish fed with diet containing DDGS (6.13%) dan hominy (4%), at the level of 10.13% (diet B), shows similar growth performance indicators with the fish fed diet A (0% of DDGS and hominy) and the growth performance indicator was higher when being compared to those fish fed diet C (containing 19.05% of DDGS (15.05%) and hominy (4%)) (p<0.05). More over the inclusion of DDGS and hominy at the level of 10,13% give no negatif impact to feed palatability (shown by total feed consumption value) and digestibility of protein. The increasing level of DDGS and hominy more than 10% reduced palatability and protein digestibility. Based on this research, DDGS and hominy can be used up to 10% in the feed formulation of humpback grouper

Keywords: digestibility, growth performance, DDGS, hominy, humpback grouper, Cromileptes altivelis

Ikan diberi pakan sampai kenyang sebanyak dua kali sehari. Retensi lemak ikan yang diberi pakan B memiliki nilai yang lebih tinggi jika dibandingkan dengan ikan yang diberi pakan A dan C. Tilapia is an economically important fish and is widely cultivated in Indonesia. More food in tilapia farming uses fish meal which needs to be replaced because of dependence as an imported product that affects production costs. One of the local raw materials that can be used as a source of animal protein is magot. This study aims to analyze the right proportion of magot flour with a combination of fish meal and magot flour in feed so as to produce maximum growth and feed efficiency for tilapia seeds. This research was conducted in September to December 2019. Test fish used were tilapia seeds measuring 1-2 cm with an average weight of 0.16 g with a stocking density of 1 fish / m3. Fish are fed twice a day with a percentage of daily feeding of 3% of fish biomass. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatment in this research is, treatment A = substitution of fish meal 100% with magot flour 0%, B = substitution of fish meal 75% with magot flour 25%, C = substitution of fish meal 50% with magot flour 50%, D = substitution of flour fish 25% with 75% magot flour, E = substitution of 0% fish flour with 100% magot flour. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) if there were significantly different treatment effects followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the addition of magot flour 50% gave a significant result (P <0.05) on protein retention with a value of 14.83%, a specific growth rate with a value of 2.00%, absolute weight growth with a value of 4.34 g, and efficiency of utilization feed with a value of 93.59%. Kata kunci: broiler, kecernaan, pertambahan bobot badan harian, proksimat, testosteron (Broiler Chickens Performance and Feed Digestibility Treated with Multi-Dose Testosterone Hormone)Testosterone is one of the anabolic hormone that can trigger the growth of muscle mass and bone. Testosterone hormone can stimulate secretion of growth hormone that has a role in growth. The aim of this research was to observe the administration of multi-dose testosterone hormone on broiler chickens performance and feed digestibility. Fourty four broiler chickens 15 days old with average weight 650 ± 71 g were divided into 4 groups (K, T1, T2, and T3). K was control group; T1, T2, and T3 were groups which given testosterone dose 1, 2, and 4 mg each chicken. Parameters measured were body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and nutritions percentage (in feed and feces). The results showed that testosterone dose 1 and 4 mg could increase the daily body weight gain significantly (p<0.05) in broiler chickens aged between 15 and 18 days old. Testosterone dose 2 mg could increase the daily body weight gain significantly (p<0.05) in broiler chickens aged between 21 and 24 days old. Feed consumption, FCR, and feed digestibility of chickens given testosterone did not show any difference compare with control. However, in group which given testosterone dose 4 mg, the digestibility values of fat, protein, and carbohydrates tended to increase. Keywords: broiler, digestibility, daily body weight gain, proximate, testosterone

The use of nanotechnology in food production systems is being investigated globally, though there is limited research on its effect on fish nutrition. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the effects of silica nanoparticles (NPs) on the nutrition and physiology of tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Four isonitrogenous diets (300 g/kg crude protein) with NPs (0, 1, 2, and 3 mg/kg diet) were fed to fish (6.52 ± 0.20 g) in a recirculatory aquaculture system for 56 days. Throughout the study period, the effects of silica NP on survival rate, blood cell count, hemoglobin (Hb) level, condition factor (CF), and final product composition (except lipid content) were insignificant. However, growth performance and feed efficiency increased with an increasing level of silica NP, up to 2 mg/kg, and then decreased. This increase was due to the highest apparent protein digestibility and dry matter digestibility when fish were fed silica NP at 2 mg/kg. However, fish at the early stage showed better performance in all dietary groups than in later. Blood glucose (BG) content and histology of the kidney revealed that fish were stressed when a 3 mg/kg silica NP was used and they adapted through excessive excretion via expanded glomeruli. Though no significant effect on villi length was observed, silica NP increased the surface area widening the villi of the gut along with the number of goblet cells in the intestine significantly, when supplemented at a level of 2 mg/kg. The bioaccumulation of silica shows that incorporating silica NP in the fish feed will not compromise human health safety upon consumption. Although silica NP at 1 mg/kg and 3 mg/kg yielded some improvements to growth and final product quality, a 2 mg/kg silica NP generated the best results in all measured parameters.

Abstract The objective was to determine effect of trucking distance on sale price of beef calf and feeder cattle lots sold through Superior Livestock Video Auctions from 2010 through 2018. Data analyzed were collected from 211 livestock video auctions. There were 42,043 beef calf lots and 19,680 feeder cattle lots used in these analyses. Six states (Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas) of delivery comprised 70% of calf lots and 83% of feeder cattle lots and were used in these analyses. All lot characteristics that could be accurately quantified or categorized were used to develop multiple regression models that evaluated effects of independent factors using backwards selection. A value of P < 0.05 was used to maintain a factor in the final models. Based upon reported state of origin and state of delivery, lots were categorized into one of the following trucking distance categories: 1) Within-State, 2) Short-Haul, 3) Medium-Haul, and 4) Long-Haul. Average weight and number of calves in lots analyzed was 259.2 ± 38.4 kg BW and 100.6 ± 74.3 head, respectively. Average weight and number of feeder cattle in lots analyzed was 358.4 ± 34.3 kg BW and 110.6 ± 104.1 head, respectively. Beef calf lots hauled Within-State sold for more ($169.24/45.36 kg; P < 0.0001) than other trucking distance categories (Table 1). Long-Haul calf lots sold for the lowest (P < 0.0001) price ($166.70/45.36 kg). Within-State and Short-Haul feeder cattle lots sold for the greatest (P < 0.0001) price ($149.96 and $149.81/45.36 kg, respectively; Table 2). Long-Haul feeder cattle lots sold for the lowest (P < 0.0001) price, $148.43/45.36 kg. These results indicate there is a price advantage for lots expected to be hauled shorter distances, likely because of cost and risk associated with transportation.
