Meningiomas are considered the most common intracranial tumors, affecting mainly women. Studies in mixed populations can be of great importance to clarify issues related to the genetic diversity of tumors and their development. Considering that data obtained from analyses of the profile of copy number alterations (CNA) have been a useful diagnostic indicator for many types of tumors and that meningiomas show a complex pattern of gains and losses in the number of copies, our objective was to analyze the CNA profile in 33 samples of meningiomas of different histological grades (WHO Grade I-III) from patients in a city located in the Amazon region of Brazil, using aCGH. We found that the female to male ratio was 3 : 1. The aCGH analysis revealed a total of 2304 CNA, with an average of 69.8 ± 57.4 per case, of which 1197 were gains (52%), 926 were losses (40.2%), 105 were amplifications (4. 5%), and 76 were deletions (3.3%). A significant relationship was observed between the type of CNA and the degree of the tumor (chi-square test: χ2 = 65,844; p<0.0001; contingency coefficient: C = 0.1772; p<0.0001). Evaluating the recurrent changes in at least 50% of the samples, we observe as the most frequent losses of the segments 22q13.1-q13.2 (82%), 1p35.3 (76%), and 14q13.1-q13.2 (67%), involving all histopathological grades. The analysis of these regions showed the inclusion of genes with functions such as regulation, maintenance of cell survival, reorganization of the cytoskeleton, cell signaling, and DNA repair, among others. However, overall, the profiles observed in meningiomas of this admixed population were very similar to the ones observed in Caucasian groups. An interesting finding was a recurrent gain of 8p22 observed only in grade I meningiomas, a region which includes DLC1, a suppressor candidate gene probably implicated in the developments or progression of meningiomas, usually found deleted, when related to CNAs.

As farmers are exposed to risk and uncertainty, they are unable to make optimal choices. The main purpose of this paper was to present how farmers perceive risk in agriculture. To meet the objective defined above, this paper relied on the results of a 2018 survey conducted with a sample of 137 legume farms across the country. The information was analyzed and described with the use of descriptive statistics methods. Also, the correlation between selected characteristics was assessed with the Pearson’s contingency coefficient (C) based on the chi-square test of independence. Most interviewees (71%) perceive the effects of risk as the possible emergence of losses or profits, while 29% associate risks with losses only. None of the interviewees declared the perception of risks purely as an opportunity to reap benefits. The respondents believe that agricultural businesses should be most wary of production risk (an average rating of 11.6) and market risk (8.1 to 9.0).

Research background: Consumers’ interest in environmental responsibility, sustainable consumption, and the circular economy is significantly increasing in all aspects of their lives. Clothing and fashion are clearly among these aspects. The fashion industry is one of the most resource-intensive and environmentally polluting industries. Circularity has been offered as a solution to this issue; however, the change must be in the attitudes of all concerned (Musova et al., 2021b). Businesses must react to this requirement for sustainable fashion, which is the reason that new circular concepts have been raised. Different generations prefer different models of circularity. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the current study is to detect the existence of dependency between generation and the fashion industry’s circular models, and to identify consumers’ specific preferences. Methods: The original consumer survey was undertaken by the authors in 2021, and involved 513 Slovak and 974 Czech consumers, who responded on their preferences in the circular economy. Pearson’s chi-square test of independence was used to confirm the dependence between consumers’ generation and the circular concept. The significant medium dependence of the nominal variables was confirmed by Pearson’s contingency coefficient, C, and Cramer's V. The relationships between the generation categories of Central European consumers and the categories of the new circular models in the fashion industry were established through correspondence analysis. Findings & Value added: The findings of the study suggest that Baby boomers single out capsule wardrobes, Generation X prefers patchwork and slow fashion, while Millennials prioritise GOTS and SWAP. Finally, Generation Z favours leasing jeans, upcycling, and renting clothes.

Background: Intestinal-type sinonasal adenocarcinoma (ITAC) is a rare tumour related to occupational wood dust exposure. Few studies have described recurrent genetic changes on a genome-wide scale. The aim of this study was to obtain a high resolution map of recurrent genetic alterations in ITAC. Material and methods: Copy number alterations were evaluated by microarray CGH and MLPA in 37 primary tumours. The results were correlated with pathological characteristics and clinical outcome. Results: Microarray CGH identified the following recurrent aberrations, in descending order: gains at 5p15 (22 cases, 60%), 8q24 (21 cases, 57%), 20q13 (20 cases, 54%), 20q11, and 8q21 (19 cases, 51%), 20p13, and 7p11 (16 cases, 43%), and losses at 5q11-qter, 8p12-pter, and 18q12-23 (15 cases, 40%), and 17p13, and 19p13 (13 cases, 35%). MLPA analysis confirmed this global pattern of gains and losses. Chromosomal loss at 4q32-ter and gains at 1q22, 6p22 and 3q29, as well as deletion of TIMP2 and CRK correlated with unfavourable clinical outcome. Conclusion: ITACs have a unique pattern of chromosomal abnormalities. The four different histological subtypes of ITAC appeared genetically similar. Four chromosomal gains and losses and two specific genes showed prognostic value and may be involved in tumour progression.

Abstract Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a biologically heterogeneous disease where no common genetic aberration so far has been described. Although recurrent genomic aberrations of prognostic significance are well established (e.g. deletions of 11q, 13q, 17p and trisomy 12), less is known about the overall genetic complexity. Recent development of high-resolution single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-arrays will allow screening of genetic complexity, which includes detection of smaller copy-number alterations (CNAs) in addition to the known, recurrent aberrations. We here applied the Affymetrix GeneChip® Mapping 250K Nsp arrays and screened peripheral blood samples from 203 newly diagnosed CLL patients (≥70% tumor cells) from a population-based Scandinavian cohort. The male:female ratio was 2:1, the majority of patients was in stage A (70%) and the median age at diagnosis 61 years. Sixty percentage of cases displayed mutated IGHV genes whereas 35% showed unmutated IGHV genes. The Nexus copy-number software (Biodiscovery, Inc.) was applied and CNAs were identified in all CLL samples investigated, where deletions were more commonly detected than gains (in average, 3.5 vs. 2.2 per sample, respectively). The average length of deletions was 3.5 Mb while gains had an average length of 9.5 Mb (3.6 Mb when excluding trisomy 12). More than 50% of deletions and gains had a size ranging between 0.1–1 Mb, whereas 22% of CNAs were less than 0.1 Mb and 25% larger than 1 Mb. When investigating known, recurrent alterations, 105 samples (52%) carried del(13)(q14); 82 samples displayed a mono-allelic deletion, 15 samples a bi-allelic deletion and 8 samples carried 2 mono-allelic deletions of different sizes. The minimal overlapping region was 0.44 Mb and most of the 13q14 deletions covered the genomic region of miR-15, miR-16 and/or DLEU7. Twenty-one samples (10%) showed trisomy 12 and del(11q) was detected in 27 samples (13%), all covering the ATM gene. del(17p) was detected in 7 patients (3.4%) with one patient also carrying several gains and losses of 17q. Moreover, large alterations involving chromosome arms or entire chromosomes were recurrently observed among the samples, for instance, 3 large 8p losses and 4 large 8q gains. Interestingly, 5 samples, which all carried del(11q), displayed a gain covering whole or large parts of the p-arm of chromosome 2, a region which covers MYCN, REL and BCL11A. Furthermore, comparison of samples with different IGHV mutation status (M vs. UM) illustrated a significantly higher frequency of del(11q) (32% of UM vs. 4% of M), trisomy 12 (22% of UM vs. 5% of M) and gain of 2p (12% vs. 0% in M) in samples with unmutated IGHV genes. As expected, patients with mutated IGHV genes showed a higher frequency of del(13q) (61% of M vs. 31% of UM). In addition, large aberrations (>1Mb) were more common in UM samples which in average displayed 0.57 gains and 1.22 deletions compared to 0.26 gains and 0.67 deletions in M samples. In conclusion, with whole-genome screening using high resolution SNP-arrays, higher complexity was revealed in CLL, including a higher number of gains and losses and a higher frequency of larger aberrations in UM compared to M samples. A novel, recurrent combination of del(11q) and gain of 2p was demonstrated which deserves further investigation.

The present paper is focused on the issues of private labels, their establishment, perception and preference by selected groups of respondents, namely consumers under the age of 25 and also inhabitants of selected V4 countries (Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic). An anonymous questionnaire survey was chosen as the main research method. A total of 3038 respondents aged under 25 participated—1064 respondents were from Slovakia, 973 from Hungary and 1001 from Czech Republic. This research method was subsequently supplemented with selected statistical methods evaluated in the XL Stat statistical program, SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1 and SAS 9.4, where hypotheses were examined by Pearson’s Chi-Square Test, Mantel–Haenszel Chi-square test, Cramer’s V contingency coefficient, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, Friedman’s test, Kruskal–Wallis test, Correspondence analysis and Phi Coefficient. The results of the survey can be perceived more than positively as most of the respondents declared that they knew the concept of private labels; more than 80% of respondents buy them either regularly or sporadically; just over 32% of respondents explicitly prefer them in their purchases and in terms of the perception of the quality, almost 75% of respondents think the quality of private label products is comparable to that of traditional brands.
