This brief article deals with the use of Indonesian words referring to colors for creating metaphorical expressions. All data presented are collected from various sources, such as Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Standard Dictionary), and added with data obtained from Oxford Advanced Leaner’s Dictionary, Indonesian proverb book, encyclopedia, terminology collection book, poetry anthology, song lyrics, and data of the author’s own creation as an Indonesian native speaker. Set aside from their literal meanings, the metaphorically used color words are collected and classified into two categories, i.e. achromatic and chromatic colors. Then, their universalities are determined by comparing them with English color metaphors. Finally the existence of specific Indonesian color metaphors are identified by correlating them with extra linguistic factors, such as environment, history, religion, politic and other socio cultural activities. A careful analysis on the data shows that there is nearly no significant difference in metaphorical uses of achromatic colors in English and Indonesian. However, despite universal nuances of chromatic color metaphors, some specific ones emerge due to various external factors, such as environment, education, history, politic, law, religion, literature, and other socio cultural facts that are specifically found and practiced in Indonesia.

This study aims to determine university student’s commitment in completing studies in the department Christian education management at IAKN Tarutung. Participants involved were studying at the third semester. Data were collected through a qualitative approach including from interview, documents, and open questionnaires. The results showed; First, students have commitment completing their studies although they were disappointed when they learned that their graduation was not in accordance with their first choice, but due to parents' advice and motivation, the socialization process and learning from lecturers, the motivation of classmates, student involvement in various campus activities, students increasingly love their study programs. Second, there is no significant difference between students who purely choose Christian education management study programs and students who graduate based on second choice and transition from other study programs. The results of this study indicate that intellectual desires and abilities are not the main keys in completing studies but because of hard work, and strong commitment (strong determination).BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui komitmen mahasiswa Prodi Manajemen Pendidikan Kristen dalam menyelesaikan studi di IAKN Tarutung. Abstract. Ideas transferred in the written form by Library and Information Science students as SNED (Students of Non-English Department)learning English in the environments of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) need investigating. Inability of bridging the gap between the ideas in their native language (Indonesian language) and the audience language (English language)hampers understanding on the readers' part, as especially a native speaker of English language. Paragraphs written by the SNED as English Language Learners (ELLs) are incomprehensible due to linguistic and cultural constraints. Quite a small number of students  willing to write in English in their Mid-term Examination give some picture of inappropriateness in terms of sentence structuring resulting in their English being “Indonesian” to some extent. Their “at-homeness”, in this case, proves to be so low that a native speaker of English trying to understand their ideas put into a paragraph will be more than likely misled. ELLs should have vocabularies in a sufficient number and know grammatical rules such as the one formulated as 9BP+3CC (Cd,Cx,Cdx) and the PoS at least, for instance, to equip themselves with before actually expressing their ideas in comprehensible English writing mode. Other than that, ELLs' knowledge of target culture (English, that is) plays a great role in producing a good writing as coined by a linguist: Most frequently confronted that students to a great extent know the rules of language, but are not knowledgeable enough about the target culture. In communicating their ideas, students found it difficult to do due to a culture-bound independent entity of idea expressions. The target culture influences and shape the ELLs' feelings, attitudes, and responses to the ELLs' experiences and interactions with others. It is indicated that any facilitator's efforts towards betterments in terms of writing better paragraphs by the ELLs should be a possibility.Key words: paragraph writing, linguistic, cultural, constraint, betterment, SNED.

ABSTRACTOur paper examines lexical variation in the spoken French of second language learners and focuses on words referring to the notion of ‘automobile’ (i.e., automobile, auto, voiture, char and machine). Results reveal that while students do follow the native speaker pattern of using the neutral variant auto in most instances, they diverge from native speakers by making no use of the vernacular form char and relatively high use of the prestige variant voiture. The principal external factors that influence variant choice are students' home language and the representation of variants in the input to which students are exposed.

The c.d. spectra of Pseudomonas aeruginosa cytochrome c oxidase in the oxidized state and the reduced state are reported in the visible- and u.v. absorption regions. In the visible region the comparison between the spectra of reduced cytochrome c oxidase and ferrocytochrome c-551 allows the identification of the c.d. bands mainly due to the d1 haem chromophore in cytochrome c oxidase. In the near-u.v. region the assignment of some of the observed peaks to the haem groups and to the aromatic amino acid residues is proposed. A careful analysis of the data in the far-u.v. region leads to the determination of the relative amounts of alpha-helix and beta-sheet in the enzyme, giving for the first time a picture of its secondary structure. A significant difference in this respect between the reduced and the oxidized species is observed and discussed in the light of similar conclusions reported by other workers.
